What is a funnel break?
A funnel break is a failure at one step of a conversion funnel that stops users progressing to the next step — for example a form that will not submit or a lead that never reaches the CRM.
Definition
A funnel break is a failure at a single step of the conversion path that stops people moving to the next step. The rest of the funnel can look completely healthy while one step leaks or blocks entirely.
It is distinct from a general performance decline: a break is a mechanism failing, not demand softening.
Why it matters
- Breaks are usually invisible in top-line metrics until the total gets bad enough to notice.
- They are also the most fixable kind of drop — a broken step is a bug, not a market condition.
- The longer a break runs undetected, the more paid traffic is spent on a path that cannot convert.
How to detect it
- 1Watch each stage's conversion rate against its own baseline, not just the totals.
- 2Look for one stage falling sharply while the stages before it stay flat.
- 3Complete the funnel yourself end to end, on mobile as well as desktop, and confirm the record lands in the CRM.
Example
Illustrative scenario: ads deliver, the page loads, the form submits successfully — and nothing arrives in the CRM. Every marketing metric looks fine; the break is in the handoff.
How Quarkad helps
Quarkad monitors each funnel stage separately, so a single broken step shows up as a stage-level drop rather than being averaged away in a total.

Frequently asked questions
- Is a funnel break the same as a conversion drop?
- A break is one cause of a drop. A drop can also come from traffic mix, seasonality, or a deliberate change like a stricter form.
- Can a funnel break be partial?
- Often, yes — it affects one device, one browser, or one traffic source. Splitting by device and source is usually how a partial break gets found.
Find the change behind the drop.
Quarkad monitors your funnels and the changes around them, then tells you which change lines up with the drop.
