What is a lead quality drop?

A lead quality drop is a fall in how well incoming leads convert or qualify, while lead volume stays flat — the count looks fine but the leads are worse.

Definition

A lead quality drop is a decline in the value of incoming leads — fewer qualify, fewer connect, fewer close — while the number of leads stays the same or even rises.

It is the inverse of the usual conversion incident: volume metrics look healthy, and the problem only appears further down the pipeline.

Why it matters

  • Volume-based alerts never fire, so the problem is normally reported by sales weeks later.
  • The usual causes are upstream and specific: a broadened audience, a new placement, a removed qualifying field, or a lower-intent offer.
  • Optimising for volume without watching quality can make an account look better and perform worse.

How to detect it

  1. 1Track a qualification signal alongside volume — qualified rate, connect rate, or meetings booked.
  2. 2Segment by source, campaign, and placement; quality drops are usually concentrated, not uniform.
  3. 3Line the change up against targeting, placement, and form-field edits from the same period.

Example

Illustrative scenario: lead volume rises 15% after a targeting change, and the qualified rate falls by a third. Net qualified leads are down while the dashboard shows growth.

How Quarkad helps

Quarkad records the ad and form changes that precede a shift in lead flow, so when quality moves you can see which targeting or form change lines up with it.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a lead volume drop?
A volume drop is visible in the lead count. A quality drop is not — the count holds while the outcomes get worse, so it needs a qualification metric to be seen at all.
Can removing a form field cause it?
Yes. Fields like phone or company size act as filters as well as data. Removing one usually raises submit rate and lowers average quality.
